Marking the end of the 7th month (Hungry Ghost festival) on our Chinese Calendar, we are going to start of the Mid-Autumn festival (some people call it Lantern/Mooncake festival). Chinatown is again flooded with locals and tourists to watch the street performance and lighting of the firecrackers. Our President was there last evening for the lighting ceremony.
Mid-Autumn Festival is celebrated on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month among Chinese communities worldwide. This auspicious occasion is a time of gathering and reunion for families and friends, many of whom come together to enjoy mooncakes, Chinese tea and appreciate the moon at its fullest. There is an amazing display of giant lanterns forming the "Moon Goddess's" palace and shimmering lights that dress up every street in the traditional Chinatown.
