buzzling Chinatown

Another week to Chinese New Year - the streets of Chinatown are jam-packed with stalls, tourists and locals, like in the past years. Stalls selling CNY display items (wall scrolls, well wishes, fire crackers, symbolic items/animals etc), clothes, plants, fruits (mandarin oranges and pomelo), food and snacks, CNY biscuits etc.

For some, the prices will dip at closing on the last day (CNY eve) as the stall owners will be eager to clear off their stock. According to reports, not all of them make $$ from this business - depending on what you sell and the crowd (weather plays a part too).

I just went walking around to immense myself into the festive mood ;) well, to get some food stuff too, hehe.. All the BBQ pork stalls still attract long queues despite the price hike during this period! Some cushion covers, wine bottle jackets and decorative items are cheap though ;)


This is the year of Rat (the 1st animal of the 12). You can see plenty of ornaments and display items in cute mice or mickey mouse styles.
